ON TCM Nov. 21st. My Sister Eileen (1955). Musical directed by Richard Quine. It stars Janet Leigh, Betty Garrett and Jack Lemmon.

ON TCM Nov. 21st. Houdini (1953). Biographical film about the life of the magician and escapologist Harry Houdini. It was made by Paramount Pictures, directed by George Marshall and produced by George Pal from a screenplay by Philip Yordan, based on the book Houdini by Harold Kellock. The music score was by Roy Webb and the cinematography by Ernest Laszlo. The art direction was by Albert Nozaki and Hal Pereira and the costume design by Edith Head.

ON TCM Nov. 21st. And God Created Woman (1956). A French drama film directed by Roger Vadim and starring Brigitte Bardot. Though by no means her first film, it is widely recognized as the vehicle that launched Bardot into the public spotlight and immediately created her "sex kitten" persona.

ON TCM Nov. 21st. A Very Private Affair(1962). A French film directed by Louis Malle and starring Brigitte Bardot.

ON TCM Nov. 23rd. Sweet Rosie O'Grady (1943). A musical film about an American singer who attempts to better herself by marrying an English duke, but is harassed by a reporter. It stars Betty Grable and Robert Young.

ON TCM Nov. 23rd. Down Argentine Way (1940).  It made a star of Betty Grable in her first leading role and introduced audiences to Carmen Miranda. The film also starred Don Ameche, The Nicholas Brothers, Charlotte Greenwood, and J. Carrol Naish.

ON TCM Nov. 23rd. Tea for Two (1950). Musical film directed by David Butler. The screenplay by Harry Clork and William Jacobs was inspired by the 1925 stage musical No, No Nanette, although the plot was changed considerably from the original book by Otto Harbach and Frank Mandel, and the score by Harbach, Irving Caesar, and Vincent Youmans was augmented with tunes by other composers

ON TCM Nov. 23rd. That Touch of Mink (1962). Romantic comedy starring Cary Grant and Doris Day. The film co-stars Gig Young, John Astin, Audrey Meadows, and Dick Sargent. In addition, baseball stars Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and Yogi Berra make cameo appearances.

Brigitte Bardot Smoothie.

1/2 cup canned pumpkin
3/4 cup milk or vanilla yogurt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. brown sugar
4 ice cubes

Combine INGREDIENTS in BLENDER and PUREE until SMOOTH. Pour the SMOOTHIE into small glasses (this drink is rich) and GARNISH each with a dollop of VANILLA YOGURT. For a fun, add a PINCH of CINNAMON.

Happy Birthday: Veronica Lake (November 14, 1922– July 7, 1973) was a film actress and pin-up model. She received both popular and critical acclaim, most notably for her role in Sullivan's Travels and her femme fatale roles in film noir with Alan Ladd during the 1940s, and was well-known for her peek-a-boo hairstyle. On TCM Nov. 14th The Blue Angel (1930). Directed by Josef von Sternberg in 1930, based on Heinrich Mann's novel Professor Unrat. The film is considered to be the first major German sound film and it brought world fame to actress Marlene Dietrich. In addition, it introduced her signature song, Friedrich Hollaender's "Falling in Love Again (Can't Help It)".

ON TCM Nov. 14th. She (1965). An Edwardian archaeologist and two companions stumble on a lost city in the Middle East run by a beautiful queen whose love holds the promise of immortality.

ON TCM Nov. 14th. Shanghai Express(1932). The pre-Code picture stars Marlene Dietrich, Clive Brook, Anna May Wong, and Warner Oland. It was written by Jules Furthman, based on a story by Harry Hervey. It was the fourth of seven teaming of Sternberg and Dietrich.

ON TCM Nov. 14th. Clash of the Titans (1981). Fantasy/adventure film involving the Greek hero Perseus.

ON TCM Nov. 16th. Nothing Sacred(1937). The film stars Carole Lombard and Fredric March, with a supporting cast including Walter Connolly, Charles Winninger, Margaret Hamilton, Hattie McDaniel, Frank Fay and Max Rosenbloom.

ON TCM Nov.16th. To Be Or Not To Be (1942).Comedy directed by Ernst Lubitsch, about a troupe of actors in Nazi-occupied Warsaw who use their abilities at disguise and acting to fool the occupying troops. It was adapted by Lubitsch (uncredited) and Edwin Justus Mayer from the story by Melchior Lengyel.

ON TCM Nov. 16th. She Done Him Wrong(1933). The movie is famous for West's many double entendres and quips, including her seductive, "I always did like a man in a uniform. That one fits you grand. Why don't you come up sometime and see me? I'm home every evening."

ON TCM Nov.16th. I'm No Angel(1933). Mae West's third motion picture. West received sole story and screenplay credit. A young Cary Grant plays her leading man for the second time. Being Pre-Code, this was one of the few Mae West movies that was not subjected to heavy censorship. The film was directed by Wesley Ruggles

On TCM Nov. 7th. This Gun For Hire(1942). Crime drama film noir, directed by Frank Tuttle and based on the novel A Gun for Sale by Graham Greene. The drama features Veronica Lake, Robert Preston, Laird Cregar, and Alan Ladd.

On TCM Nov. 7th. The Blue Dahlia(1946) Film noir directed by George Marshall and written by Raymond Chandler. A navy officer returns home to an unfaithful wife, who is later murdered. The film marks the third pairing of stars Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake.

On TCM Nov. 7th. The Postman Always Rings Twice(1946). Drama-film noir based on the 1934 novel of the same name by James M. Cain. This adaptation of the novel is the best known, featuring Lana Turner, John Garfield, Cecil Kellaway, Hume Cronyn, Leon Ames, and Audrey Totter

ON TCM Nov. 7th. The Bad and the Beautiful(1952). Melodramatic film that tells the story of a film producer who alienates all around him. It was directed by Vincente Minelli and stars Lana Turner, Kirk Douglas, Walter Pidgeon, Dick Powell, Barry Sullivan, Gloria Grahame and Gilbert Roland.

TCM Nov. 2nd. Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?(1957). A comedy film starring Jayne Mansfield and Tony Randall, with Betsy Drake, Joan Blondell, John Williams, Henry Jones, Lili Gentle, Mickey Hargitay, and a cameo by Groucho Marx. The film is a satire on popular fan culture, Hollywood hype and the ad industry, which was making millions of dollars from television ads.

On TCM Nov. 4th. A 4 movie tribute Starring.. Gloria Stuart. Her Hollywood career spanned, from 1932 until 2004, she appeared on stage, television, and film, for which she was best-known. She played Claude Rains love interest in the film, The Invisible Man, and as the elderly Rose Dawson Calvert in the Academy Award-nominated role in, Titanic. Her film debut was a small role in, No More Ladies (1935) She performed with Fred Astaire in his first film without Ginger Rogers, A Damsel in Distress (1937), but the film flopped. She continued performing in small parts in about a dozen films, including The Women (1939), but failed to make a strong impression and her contract was not renewed when it expired in 1939, the same year she married her first husband, the British actor Brian Aherne. ON TCM Oct. 24th. What ! No Beer? (1933). Comedy starring Buster Keaton and Jimmy Durante, and directed by Edward Sedgwick. The studio had also paired Keaton and Durante as a comedy team during this period in The Passionate Plumber and Speak Easily.

On TCM Oct. 25 th. A 5 movie tribute for Jack Lemmon. He starred in more than 60 films including Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, Mister Roberts (for which he won the 1955 Best Supporting Actor Academy Award), Days of Wine and Roses, The Great Race, Irma la Douce, The Odd Couple, Save the Tiger (for which he won the 1973 Best Actor Academy Award), The Out-of-Towners, The China Syndrome, Missing (for which he won 'Best Actor' at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival), Glengarry Glen Ross, Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men. This Week on Noir and Chick Flicks.

ON TCM Oct. 15th. The Bicycle Thief (1948). Italian neorealist film directed by Vittorio De Sica. It tells the story of a poor man searching the streets of Rome for his stolen bicycle, which he needs to be able to work. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Luigi Bartolini and was adapted for the screen by Cesare Zavattini. It stars Lamberto Maggiorani as the poor man searching for his lost bicycle and Enzo Staiola as his son.



Happy Birthday: Angela Lansbury!(born 16 October 1925), is an English actress and singer in theatre, television movies, whose career has spanned eight decades. Her first film performance was in the film, Gaslight (1944) as a conniving maid, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. Among her other films are: The Manchurian Candidate (1962), Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971), Beauty and the Beast (1991), and Anastasia (1997).

ON TCM Oct. 17th. The Strawberry Blond(1941). Directed by Raoul Walsh. Cast: James Cagney and Olivia de Havilland and features Rita Hayworth, Alan Hale, Sr., Jack Carson and George Tobias. It was nominated for an Academy Award in 1941 for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture. The film features songs such as "Bill Bailey", "Meet Me in St. Louis, Louie," and "The Band Played On". The title is most often listed with the The, but the film's onscreen titles and all its posters call it simply, Strawberry Blonde. Director Walsh remade the film in 1948 as, One Sunday Afternoon.

On TCM Oct. 9th: On TCM Oct. 9th: The Haunted House(1921). A short comedy film starring comedian Buster Keaton. It was written and directed by Keaton and Edward F. Cline.

On TCM Oct. 10th.: The Uninvited(1944). The movie begins with a narration by Ray Milland, who plays one of the main characters: "They call them the haunted shores, these stretches of Devonshire and Cornwall and Ireland which rear up against the westward ocean. Mists gather here, and sea fog, and eerie stories. That’s not because there are more ghosts here than in other places, mind you. On TCM Oct. 14th. Some Like It Hot(1959). When a pair of bumbling, out-of-work musicians accidentally witness the St. Valentine's Day gangster murders, they disguise themselves as women and join up with a travelling all-womens' band to escape the mobsters who are after them.

Birthday Boy and TCM's October Star of the Month Buster Keaton(October 4, 1895 –February 1, 1966) was a comic actor, filmmaker, producer and writer. He was best known for his silent films, in which his trademark was physical comedy with a stoic, deadpan expression, earning him the name, "The Great Stone Face. On TCM Oct. 1st. Ball Of Fire(1941). Ball of Fire (also known as The Professor and the Burlesque Queen) is a 1941 comedy film about a group of professors laboring for years to write an encyclopedia and their encounter with a nightclub performer who provides her own unique knowledge. The film stars Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck, with a supporting cast that includes Oskar Homolka, S.Z. Sakall, Henry Travers, Richard Haydn, Dana Andrews, and Dan Duryea. On TCM Oct. 2nd Strangers On A Train(1951). Strangers on a Train is a psychological thriller produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. ON TCM Oct. 4th. Lady In The Lake(1947).Lady in the Lake is a noir film that marked the directorial debut of actor Robert Montgomery who also starred in the film. It was an adaptation of the 1944 Raymond Chandler novel The Lady in the Lake. The picture features Audrey Totter, Lloyd Nolan, Tom Tully, Leon Ames and Jayne Meadows. Happy Birthday: Charlton Heston!(October 4, 1923 – April 5, 2008) was an actor of film, theatre and television. Heston is known for heroic roles in films: El Cid, The Ten Commandments, Planet of the Apes and Ben-Hur, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. 1/2 small chilli, deseeded
2 in. piece lemongrass
1 Tbsp. fresh coriander
crushed ice to serve
1 lemon slice

JUICE the CUCUMBER, CARROTS,
CHILLI and LEMONGRASS together
stir in the CORIANDER. POUR into a glas
over ICE and SERVE with LEMON SLICE.

 It's the scariest time of year. With help from a scarecrow, Betty puts together a Halloween party for all of her animal friends. The invitation reads, "Hallowe'en dinner party at Betty Boop's house. Right away! P.S. Bring your lunch." Betty Boop, sings "Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing." But... when  King Kong crashes the party, Betty has real ghosts and goblins scare him away.

She starred in Jean-Luc Godard's 1963 cult film, Contempt. Sh e was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress for her role in Louis Malle's 1965 film, Viva Maria!. On TCM Sept: 22nd: Between Two Worlds(1944). Several people are killed in a London air raid. They each awake aboard a strange ship which will deliver each of them either to heaven or hell. Their lives and stories are revealed as they individually begin to realize where they are.

Happy Birthday: Mickey Rooney(September 23, 1920) He has won multiple awards, including an Honorary Academy Award, a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award. Working as a performer since he was a small child, he was a superstar as a teenager for the films in which he played Andy Hardy, and he has had one of the longest careers of any actor, to date spanning almost 90 years. He is the last surviving male star from 1930s Hollywood. For a younger generation of fans, he gained international fame for his leading role as Henry Dailey in The Family Channel's The Adventures of the Black Stallion. On TCM Sept. 23rd: Too Hot to Handle is a 1938 film about a newsreel reporter, the aviatrix he is attracted to, and his fierce competitor. Cast: Clark Gable, Myrna Loy and Walter Pidgeon. The comic highlight of the film is an early scene in which Gable is shown filming a faked newsreel of an aerial attack. Many of the gags were put together by an uncredited Buster Keaton.
