Happy Birthday: Joan Fontaine. (born October 22, 1917). Her film debut was a small role in, No More Ladies (1935) She performed with Fred Astaire in his first film without Ginger Rogers, A Damsel in Distress (1937), but the film flopped. She continued performing in small parts in about a dozen films, including The Women (1939), but failed to make a strong impression and her contract was not renewed when it expired in 1939, the same year she married her first husband, the British actor Brian Aherne. ON TCM Oct. 22nd a 6 movie tribute to Nina Foch. Nina, was a Dutch-born American actress and leading lady in many 1940s and 1950s films. I plan to post a article about her Oct. 23rd.
ON TCM Oct. 24th. What ! No Beer? (1933). Comedy starring Buster Keaton and Jimmy Durante, and directed by Edward Sedgwick. The studio had also paired Keaton and Durante as a comedy team during this period in The Passionate Plumber and Speak Easily.
On TCM Oct. 25 th. A 5 movie tribute for Jack Lemmon. He starred in more than 60 films including Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, Mister Roberts (for which he won the 1955 Best Supporting Actor Academy Award), Days of Wine and Roses, The Great Race, Irma la Douce, The Odd Couple, Save the Tiger (for which he won the 1973 Best Actor Academy Award), The Out-of-Towners, The China Syndrome, Missing (for which he won 'Best Actor' at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival), Glengarry Glen Ross, Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men. ON TCM Oct. 30th. The Devil Doll(1936), is a horror film directed by Tod Browning and starring a cross-dressing Lionel Barrymore and Maureen O'Sullivan as his daughter, Lorraine Levond.
