This week on N and CF.


On TCM Sept.10th: Ever since Eve(1937). Romantic comedy film starring Marion Davies (in her final film) and Robert Montgomery.

On TCM Sept. 11th: 42nd Street(1933). The film is a lively backstage musical, and was very successful at the box office. 42nd Street was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1934. Click picture on side bar to read review.

On TCM Sept. 12th: Passion Flower(1930). A bored society woman invites scandal and heartache when she falls in love with her chauffeur.

On TCM Sept. 12th: Marilyn Monroe, began a career as a model, which led to a film contract in 1946. Her early film appearances were minor, but her performances in, The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve (both 1950) were well received. By 1953, Monroe had progressed to leading roles. Her "dumb blonde" persona was used in such films, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) and The Seven Year Itch (1955).

Happy Birthday: Maurice Chevalier. Sept. 12th. A French actor, singer, and popular vaudeville entertainer. Chevalier's best known songs include: "Louise", "Mimi", "Valentine", and "Thank Heaven for Little Girls". His trademark was a boater hat, which he always wore on stage with a tuxedo. . On TCM Sept. 13th: Young Man With A Horn(1950). Based on a biographical novel of the same name about Bix Beiderbecke, the legendary cornet player. Please click picture on side bar to read movie review.

Happy Birthday: Claudette Colbert (Sept.13 th. 1903–1996). Had a successful film career and became one of the highest paid entertainers in films. Colbert was recognized as one of the leading women of screwball comedy; she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in, It Happened One Night (1934), and also received Academy Award nominations for her roles in Private Worlds (1935) and Since You Went Away (1944). On TCM Sept. 14th: The Mating Season(1951). A film made by Paramount Pictures, it was directed by Mitchell Leisen and produced by Charles Brackett from a screenplay by Charles Brackett, Richard Breen and Walter Reisch, based on the play Maggie by Caesar Dunn. The ensemble cast stars Gene Tierney, John Lund, Miriam Hopkins, and Thelma Ritter. Please click picture on side bar for movie review.

On TCM Sept.15th: Three Girls About Town(1941). Comedy directed by Leigh Jason. The story is written by Richard Carroll and stars Joan Blondell, Binnie Barnes and Janet Blair (in her film debut).

Happy Birthday: Fay Wray (September 15, 1907 – August 8, 2004). Was best known for playing the lead in King Kong. Through an acting career that spanned 57 years, Wray gained stardom as an actress in horror film roles, leading to many considering her as the first "scream queen". Happy Birthday: Lauren Bacall (September 16, 1924). She first performed as leading lady in the Humphrey Bogart film, "To Have And Have Not" (1944) and continued on in the film noir genre, including the films, The Big Sleep (1946) and Dark Passage (1947), as well as a comedienne in, How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) and Designing Woman (1957). On TCM Sept. 16th. Key Largo(1948), is a 1948 film noir directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall, Lionel Barrymore, and Claire Trevor.

Article of the week: Comet Over Hollywood Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Carley, believes that classic film has shaped our society, pop culture and our knowledge.
