Chick Flicks at the Movies: (1950) The Second Woman. Cast: Robert Young, Betsy Drake (pictured above), John Sutton, Florence Bates. This psychological thriller tells the story of Jeff Cohalan (Robert Young). He's a successful architect who is tormented by the fact that his fiancee was killed in a mysterious car accident on the night before their wedding. Blaming himself for her death, Colahan spends his time alone, in the beautiful home he'd designed for her. Cohalan, also notices that ever since the accident, he seems to be followed by bad luck. He meets a woman named Ellen (Betsy Drake), and they are immediately attracted to each other. Happy Birthday: Natalie Wood(July 20, 1938 – November 29, 1981), who began acting in movies at the age of four and performed in films, Miracle on 34th Street (19470, Rebel Without a Cause (1955) earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She then performed in the musicals: West Side Story (1961) and Gypsy (1962). She also received Academy Award for Best Actress nominations for her performances in Splendor in the Grass (1961) and Love with the Proper Stranger (1963).
On TCM July 24th: The Girl Most Likely(1957). Musical about a young woman who ends up engaged to three men at the same time. The film, a remake of Tom, Dick and Harry (1941), was directed by Mitchell Leisen, and stars Jane Powell, Cliff Robertson, and Keith Andes. The choreography is by Gower Champion.
